El tercer trabajo de los suecos HEAT está calando muy hondo entre los seguidores del hard melódico y Hard rock & AOR no dudo en ponerse en contacto con su carismático guitarrista Dave Dalone para que nos contara todos los pormenores de su fantástico Address the Nation.
Alexander: Felicidades por vuestra nueva obra. ¿Estais satisfechos con el resultado final? ¿Cambiariais algo?
DAVE: ¡Hola! Gracias. Sí, estamos encantados, creo que es un gran álbum. Bueno, creo que es bastante único... pero para serte sincero, soy el tipo de tío que cuando está escuchando música... suelo encontrar cosas que quiero cambiar. Nuevas ideas y pensamientos para mejorarlo, siempre me vienen. Soy el peor tío al que le puedas hacer esta pregunta porque si tuviera la oportunidad, todavía estaría trabajando en el álbum. Al estilo Chinese democracy. Pero al final, estoy tan encantado como se puede estar con "Adress the nation".
Alexander: ¿Como está siendo la reacción de fans y el público en general hacía Address the nation?
DAVE: ¡Sí, parece estar calando!
Alexander: Erik Gronwäll lleva ya un tiempo como vocalista y perfectamente asentado en HEAT pero todavía surgen dudas sobre su persona.Incluso se dice que ahora os habeis convertido en la "Erik Gronwäll band"... ¿Como fué su elección?
DAVE: La verdad es que no sé de qué va todo eso. Somos H.E.A.T. y lo que ves es lo que hay.
Alexander: Ya que estamos... ¿Como os sienta que aún os sigan considerando una "rocker boy band" para quinceañeras?
DAVE: El tipo de música que hacemos es algo en la línea del AOR/Melodic Rock y el oyente típico es en general probablemente mayor de 30 años. Y la escena de rock melódico en sí misma es relativamente pequeña hoy en día. Así que si podemos brillar un poco en este género y hacer que se nos escuche y estar disponibles para una audiencia más amplia, no me importa ser considerado lo que sea. Mientras que pueda tocar la música que amo y ser fiel a lo que hago, no tengo problemas con las etiquetas. Además, las bandas de chicos se llevan a las chicas.
Alexander: ¿Manteneis contacto con Kenny? ¿Sabeis algo de ese tan anunciado disco en solitario?
DAVE: Sí, pero no he oído nada.
Alexander: Conozco poco de vuestros inicios como banda.¿Podrías regalarnos un pequeño resumen de vuestros inicios en la música? ¿Con que música crecisteis y os formsteis como músicos?
DAVE: Crecí escuchando todo tipo de música, blues, folk, rock, pop... pero cuando realmente decidí que quería tocar la guitarra fue con 10 años, cuando escuché a Guns 'n' Roses por primera vez. H.E.A.T. se formó en el 2007. Yo y Jona teníamos un proyecto de estudio de AOR llamado Dream con kenny a las voces. Y después de trabajar en el estudio durante bastante tiempo, queríamos llevar nuestra música afuera, a la carretera. Así que nos juntamos con Eric, Jimmy y Crash, que tocaban algo más del tipo NWOBHM en otra banda llamada Trading Fate donde también Kenny era el cantante.
Alexander: Como ha sido el proceso de composición. ¿Diferente a los dos discos anteriores, habeis buscado nuevos medios de inspiración?
DAVE: Hasta ahora, hemos hecho 3 discos y el proceso de composición ha sido ligeramente diferente en cada uno de ellos. Esta vez, realmente nos tomamos nuestro tiempo para escribir más que para editar el disco, porque eso es lo que las bandas hacen. En gran medida gracias a nuestro manager, quien tuvo bastante fé en nosotros.
Alexander: ¿Porque habeis elegido un productor como Tobias Lindell más conocido por ser productor de grupos de corte más "duro"...? ¿Buscabais una mayor contundencia en vuestro sonido? La verdad es que todo suena más maduro y se os nota más centrados.
DAVE: Para ser sincero, en lo que a la producción se refiere, estoy bastante seguro de que todos los chicos de la banda estarían de acuerdo cuando digo que éste es el tipo de sonido que siempre quisimos alcanzar. Sólo nos llevó dos discos alcanzarlo. Parece una bendición ser capaz de trabajar con un productor que te gusta.
Alexander: ¿Que os ofrece una compañia como EAR music que no ofrece la todopoderosa en el territorio Hard/AOR Frontiers records?
DAVE: Apuesto a que Frontiers es una gran compañía, pero creo que a veces es bueno ser la banda que va a donde nadie más va.
Alexander: Una par de cosas que está en boca de todos es la inclusión de saxo en la magnífica "In out and trouble" o ese homenaje al AOR ochentero más puro de "Downtown"... ¿Pistas de donde pueden ir vuestras futuras obras?
DAVE: ¡Me alegro de que te guste! Veremos lo que pasa en el futuro, yo creo que es pronto para decirlo en estos momentos. ¡Pero estoy bastante seguro de que va a rockear!
Alexander: "Address the nation" contiene solo 10 canciones, muy al estilo clásico y apostando calidad por cantidad.¿Habeis dejado muchos cortes fuera? ¿La edición japonesa vendrá con bonus inéditas?
DAVE: Exactamente, como en los viejos tiempos... ¡la calidad ante la cantidad! Sí, creo que escribimos algo así como 30 temas de los cuales elegir. Habrá un bonus japonés llamado "Back into your arms".
Alexander: Vuestro intento de participar en Eurovisión no dió el resultado esperado pero tengo entendido que en suecia la grandiosa "1000 miles" fué todo un HIT que no habeis vuelto a superar...
DAVE: En realidad no participamos en el festival eurovisión, sólo en el sueco. ¡Pero lo hicimos bastante bien! La canción "1000 miles" se convirtió en el 4º tema más emitido en la radio sueca aquel año. Eso significa mucho por el hecho de que eurovisión aquí en Suecia es demencialmente popular.
Alexander: Este año vuestros compatriotas Dynazty lo han intentado pero tampoco lo han conseguido. Su "Land of broken dreams" me suena muy "1ooo miles" jaj!! ¿Conoceis a la banda? ¿que os parece la canción?
DAVE: Sí, son buenos amigos nuestros. No lo sé realmente. No tengo una opinión específica sobre ello, pero me gusta su nuevo álbum, un buen equipo musical.
Alexander: ¿Que tal una gira HEAT + Dynazty? ¡El menu perfecto! Que os pareció el público Español en vuestras visitas anteriores? ¿que tal la comida,las mujeres, el clima...?
DAVE: España siempre ha sido uno de los mejores países en los que hemos tocado, ¡sois salvajes! Siempre nos lo hemos pasado genial tocando en España y siempre que vamos intento hacer algo de turismo también. Normalmente el tiempo y las mujeres están cerca de la perfección.
Alexander: ¿Qué podemos esperar de HEAT en el futuro? ¿Planes o colaboraciones recientes?
DAVE: ¡Eso sería algo! Quiero decir, ¿por qué no?
Alexander: Una pregunta que nunca falta. ¿Como son HEAT en su tiempo libre? Hobbies, aficiones... ¿Crash fué modelo porfesional no? ¡jaja!

DAVE: Para ser honesto, pocas bandas nuevas de la nueva escena melódica me sorprenden, aunque estamos fuera de ella. Yo soy más de AOR/rock clásico. Claro que hay algunas nuevas buenas bandas ahí fuera que me gustan, por ejemplo me gusta el nuevo disco de Work of Art. ¡"The great fall" es un tema genial!

probably still be working on the album, chinese domocracy - style. But at the end, i am as pleased as can be with adress the nation.
2.How is the reaction of the fans and the audience in general being so far respecting "Address the nation"?
Yeah, people seem to dig it!
3.Erik Gronwäll has been already the singer for quite a time and is already good established in HEAT, but there are still some questions that come around about him. It's even said that you have become the "Erik Gronwäll band"... How was his election?
I don't know what that's all about really. We are H.E.A.T and what you see is what you get.
4.Once in the subject... how does it feel still being considered as a "rocker boy band" for teenagers?
The type of music that we do is something in line with AOR/melodic rock and the typical listener is in general most likely over 30 years of age.
And the melodic rock scene itself is relatively small these days. So if we can shine a little light on this genre and make it heard and available for a broader audience , i don't mind being considered as whatever. As long as i play the music i love and stay true to what i do, i have no problems with people putting labels. Also, boybands get all the chicks.
5.Do you still keep contact with Kenny? Do you know anything about his so announced solo album?
Yes, but i haven't heard anything.
6.I don't know much about your beginnings as a band. Could you make a resume for us? What was the kind of music you were raised with and with which you became musicians?
I grew up listening to all kinds of music, like blues, folk, rock, pop.. but when i really decided that i wanted to play guitar was at the age of 10, when i heard guns 'n' roses for the first time. H.E.A.T
was formed in 2007. Me and jona had an AOR studio project called Dream with kenny doing the vocals. And after working in the studio for quite some time, we wanted to take our music out on the roads. So we hooked up with Eric, Jimmy and Crash who played a slightly more NWOBHM type of hardrock in another band called Trading Fate where kenny also was the singer.
7.How was the composition process? Different to the previous ones? Have you found new ways of inspiration?
So far, we've made 3 albums and the writingprocess has been slightly different on all of them. This time, we really took the time to write rather than just releasing an album becouse thats what bands do. A lot thanks to our manager who had good faith in us.
8.Why did you choose a producer like Tobias Lindell, more known for being a producer for harder music bands? Were you trying to find a stronger force for your sound? The truth is that everything sounds more mature and
you seem to be more centered.
To be hounest, when it comes to the production, I'm pretty sure that all of the guys in the band would agree when i say that this is the type of sound that we've allways aimed for. It just took 2 albums to get there. It
really feels like a blessing to be able to work with a producer that you like.
9.What does a company like EAR Music offer you that the almighty Frontiers doesn't?
I bet frontiers is a great label, but i think that it's sometimes good to be the band that doesn't go where everybody else does.
10.A couple of things that are in all the minds is the adding of the sax in the outstanding "In out and trouble" or that tribute to the most pure 80s AOR "Downtown"... Any clue which road your future works can take?
Im glad that you like it! We'll see what happens in the future, i think that it's a little early to tell at this stage. But im pretty sure it's gonna rock!
11."Address the nation" contains only 10 songs, like in the old times, but betting more for the quality. Did you leave many songs to a side? Will the japanese edition contain any unrealeased bonustrack?
Exactly, like the good old times.. Quality Before Quantity! Yes, I think we wrote something close to 30 songs to choose from. It will be a japanese bonustrack called Back into your arms.
12.Your try in this European contest was not as successfull as expected but I think that in Sweden the great "1000 miles" was a big hit that you
never conquered again...
Actually we did'nt participate in the eurovision contest, only in the swedish one. But we did pretty good in it! The song 1000 miles became the
4th most played on swedish radio or something that year. That is alot becouse of the fact that the eurovision thing here in sweden is insanely popular.
13.This year your neighbours Dynazty tried too, but again with no success. Their "Land of broken dreams" sound a lot like "1ooo miles". Do you know the band? What is your opinion about their song?
Yes, they're good friends of ours. I don't know really. I have no specific opinion about it, but i do like their new album, great musicianship!
14.What about a HEAT + Dynazty tour? The perfect menu! How did you like the spanish audience in your previous visits to our country? How about the food, the women, the weather...?
Spain has allways been one of the best countries for h.e.a.t to play in, you guys are wild! We've allways had a blast playing in spain and everytime im there i try to do some sightseeing aswell! Usually the weather and women are close to perfect! Wink
15. What can we expect from HEAT in the future? Any plans, projects, recent colaborations...?
That would be something! I mean, why not? Spain has allways been one of the best countries for H.E.A.T to play in. We've allways had a blast playing spain, you guys are wild! Great cities to party in aswell and i allways try to do some sightseeing while i'm there! Weather and women are usually allways perfect!
16.A question that we always make: how are HEAT in their free time? Hobbies... Crash was a professional model, wasn't he?
Yeah we all have our own hobbies and interests. Crash is doing some modelling and Erik for instance, is a pretty good boxer and i'm doing some painting and stuff. So it's these kind of things you know. But the one thing we all have in common is that we drink loads of beer!
17. Sure you are in touch with the new melodic scene. Which bands have recently surprised you?
To be hounest, Few of the bands from the new melodic scene suprises me, even though we're apart of it, I'm more of a classic AOR/rock kind of guy. Of course there are some new great bands out there that i like, for example i do like Work of art's new album. The great fall is a mint tune!

Actually we did'nt participate in the eurovision contest, only in the swedish one. But we did pretty good in it! The song 1000 miles became the
4th most played on swedish radio or something that year. That is alot becouse of the fact that the eurovision thing here in sweden is insanely popular.
13.This year your neighbours Dynazty tried too, but again with no success. Their "Land of broken dreams" sound a lot like "1ooo miles". Do you know the band? What is your opinion about their song?
Yes, they're good friends of ours. I don't know really. I have no specific opinion about it, but i do like their new album, great musicianship!
14.What about a HEAT + Dynazty tour? The perfect menu! How did you like the spanish audience in your previous visits to our country? How about the food, the women, the weather...?
Spain has allways been one of the best countries for h.e.a.t to play in, you guys are wild! We've allways had a blast playing in spain and everytime im there i try to do some sightseeing aswell! Usually the weather and women are close to perfect! Wink
15. What can we expect from HEAT in the future? Any plans, projects, recent colaborations...?
That would be something! I mean, why not? Spain has allways been one of the best countries for H.E.A.T to play in. We've allways had a blast playing spain, you guys are wild! Great cities to party in aswell and i allways try to do some sightseeing while i'm there! Weather and women are usually allways perfect!
16.A question that we always make: how are HEAT in their free time? Hobbies... Crash was a professional model, wasn't he?
Yeah we all have our own hobbies and interests. Crash is doing some modelling and Erik for instance, is a pretty good boxer and i'm doing some painting and stuff. So it's these kind of things you know. But the one thing we all have in common is that we drink loads of beer!
17. Sure you are in touch with the new melodic scene. Which bands have recently surprised you?
To be hounest, Few of the bands from the new melodic scene suprises me, even though we're apart of it, I'm more of a classic AOR/rock kind of guy. Of course there are some new great bands out there that i like, for example i do like Work of art's new album. The great fall is a mint tune!
