Born In Boston and grown up in Toronto, Canada. When he was 19 he got signed by WEA in Canada after they have heard one of his demosongs. The album were set to be recorded in Los Angeles supported by Toto members Steve Lukather, Jeff Porcaro and Mike Porcaro.
In 1982 he released "All Dressed Up", and it was the only album that he released, and today it is one of the masterpieces in the west coast music world. One of his songs "Anywhere You Run To" has later been covered by Diana Ross.
Around 1994 he prepared new demorecordings of songs to a comeback album, but these were never released. Later in 2003 he began to write music with the swedish guitarist Tommy Denander and this actually got David Roberts back on the track again, since he was featured on Frédéric Slama's AOR project album "Dreaming of L.A".
ETC ETC ETC.
Temas Absolutamente Alucinantes y Romanticos como:
-Never Gonna Let You Go, Merecerian estar en lo mas alto d las listas por toda la Eternidad. Super Temazo Super "Refrescant y Veraniego" a tope!!!!
-La q abre el disco: All In The Name Of Love es otra Maraviya.
-Someone Like You, en Onda Totalmente Toto.
-She's Still Mine (That's My Girl) Mas en onda Survivor, otra Gema! Anywhere You Run To, Otra temazo importante en esta Gloriosa Obra d WEST/COAST Absolutamente mitico.
Baladones como: Another World y mi Gran Favorita: Too Good to Last, demuestran el Don d Romanticismo y Ternura q tenia esta gente, q t hace poner los pelos d punta con solo escuxar la melodia.
Super Mega Recomendadisimo!!
10 d 10!!
Mas Info en Ingles:
In 1982, Canadian session vocalist David Roberts decided to release his own album, receiving some pretty hefty production help from Greg Mathieson, known for his work with Barbra Streisand and Olivia NewtonJohn, among others. Two singles came off of Robert's All Dressed Up album, with the placid, afternoon feel of "Boys of Autumn" getting a bit of air time on mainly easy listening radio stations. The other single, styled much in the same fashion was "Anywhere You Run To," which sounded like something that England Dan John Ford Coley or Seals and Croft would have put out. With Toto musicians Steve Lukather on guitar, Jeff Porcaro on drums, and brother Mike Porcaro playing bass guitar, All Dressed Up initiated a sturdy enough soft rock feel, but the tracks suffer from shallow lyrics and an overflow of Barry Manilowlike balminess. "Never Gonna Let You Go" and "All in the Name of Love" are tuneful enough and are easily the second best set of songs as far as melody is concerned, and they prove that Roberts harbors some talent in his singing. This was the only album that David Roberts ever made, which was deleted by the end of the decade.
Amazing one-off WESTCOAST classic album from 1982, featuring several of the TOTO guys, DAVID FOSTER, JAY GRAYDON, BILL CHAMPLIN (CHICAGO), TOM KELLY, JERRY HEY and produced by GREG MATHIESON.
This little gem was only released on CD in JAPAN and hence is very hard to track down these days.
This is a welcome limited edition CD issue of a great album from 1982. It's long been near the top of my 'got it on vinyl but want it on CD' list.
The music fits clearly into the West Coast/ AOR/pop genre. Perhaps the nearest comparison would be with Christopher Cross meets Richard Marx, though All Dressed Up is a rather more up-tempo album. There is a remarkable consistency here, making it difficult to highlight best tracks, but 'Wrong Side of the Tracks', 'Midnight Rendezvous' and 'Anywhere You Run To' are stand-out cuts.
Singer-songwriter David Roberts is backed by a stellar cast of supporting musicians, including Steve Lukather, Jay Graydon, Jeff Porcaro, David Foster and Bill Champlin, with Greg Mathieson supplying meticulous production. A really great album, and I'm glad it's turned up on CD.
