"Toby Hitchcok (Pride Of Lions) de la mano de Frontiers y el músico sueco Erik Martenson (Eclipse), editó a finales de este verano uno de los discos de rock melódico que mas han dado de hablar durante este 2011. Un disco delicioso hecho a la medida de la voz de Toby. Estuvimos charlando con el sobre el álbum y sobre sus proyectos mas inmediatos."
Mario Aparicio: En primer lugar, centrémonos en tu primer álbum en solitario, “Mercury´s Down” ¿Cómo surgió la idea?
Toby Hitchcock: Surgió básicamente cuando Serafino (Frontiers ) me preguntó si podría estar interesado en grabar un proyecto en solitario. Por supuesto que dije “¡Si!” Poco después de esto, me presentaron a Erik y me sorprendió muchísimo su talento. Así que, nada más que decir, estaba muy emocionado con este proyecto.
Mario Aparicio: ¿Estás contento con el resultado? ¿Qué tal está siendo la aceptación del público?
Toby Hitchcock: Estoy muy contento con el resultado. Pienso que esta saliendo genial. ¡La respuesta ha sido abrumadora!
Mario Aparicio: Erik Martensson (Eclipse, Wet) ha cogido el mando en la producción y composición del álbum. ¿Cómo colaboraste en este proceso?
Toby Hitchcock: Erik y Michael hicieron un trabajo excepcional con las canciones. Había algunas frases en inglés que corregí cuando grabamos, pero no cambie ninguna letra, realmente. Solo las ajuste un poco.
Mario Aparicio: ¿Cuáles son tus canciones favoritas del álbum?
Toby Hitchcock: Bueno, ya sabes, no puedo decirlo. Me encantan todas. Me gusta muchísimo “This is the moment”
Mario Aparicio: ¿Tienes intención de grabar más álbumes como solista, o simplemente ha sido un solo proyecto?
Toby Hitchcock: ¡Eso espero! Claro, depende de la discográfica pero estaría dispuesto a grabar otro proyecto en solitario tan pronto como se me presente la oportunidad.
Mario Aparicio: Hablemos un poco de Pride of Lions, ¿Tienes alguna noticia? ¿Se va a publicar nuevo material?
Toby Hitchcock: Comenzaremos un nuevo álbum pronto. Y estoy muy entusiasmado con ello.
Mario Aparicio: ¿Sigues teniendo contacto con Jim PEterik?
Toby Hitchcock: Estoy con frecuencia en contacto con Jim. Por supuesto, estamos muy ocupados pero que el futuro de POL pinta bien.
Mario Aparicio: ¿Cómo afecta la fe en tu vida? ¿Qué es para ti Jesús?
Toby Hitchcock: Mi relación con Cristo ha sido siempre muy importante. Haber sido criado en una iglesia, ha sido una bendición para mi.
Mario Aparicio: Tuvisteis un detalle muy especial con los fans españoles en la composición de la canción de Jim Peterik, Black Ribbons. ¿Qué me puedes decir de esta canción?
Toby Hitchcock: Esta fue una gran canción para España. Teníamos una tragedia aquí, en EE.UU con las Torres Gemelas. Así que sé de primera mano como afecta esto a los ciudadanos de cualquier país. Solo tenemos que recordar que estar unidos en estos tiempos difíciles es lo único que nos hará seguir adelante.
Mario Aparicio: ¿Cual es tu álbum favorito de Pride of Lions? Si solo pudieras quedarte con dos canciones, ¿Cuales escogerías?
Toby Hitchcock: “Gift” es una de mis canciones favoritas porque describe como me siento sobre mi talento. Diría que mi otra canción es “Back to Camelot”. Me encanta esa canción. Me dan ganas de visitar esos tiempos.
Mario Aparicio: ¿Tienes algún entrenamiento vocal?
Toby Hitchcock: La verdad es que no. No profesional. He cantado desde que tengo memoria.
Mario Aparicio: ¿Cantas en la ducha?
Toby Hitchcock: No es asunto tuyo! jajaj. Si! Siempre! Esperemos que siempre pueda.
Mario Aparicio: Tus referencias, vocalistas que te influencian, ¿Cuáles son?
Toby Hitchcock: Hay muchos a los que mencionar. Pero tengo influencias en todos los ámbitos. Desde Steve Perry hasta Freddie Mercury y Brian McKnight y Mariah Carey! Jaja... es verdad. Me encanta todo tipo de música.
Mario Aparicio: ¿Cinco discos que te llevarías a una isla desierta?
Toby Hitchcock: No me llevaría cualquier CD. Me llevaría mi iPod! Lo tiene todo.
Mario Aparicio: Si Toby Hitchcock, fuera un personaje de ficción, ¿Quién sería y por qué?
Toby Hitchcock: Sería Superman. Siempre he querido volar.
Mario Aparicio: Además de la música, ¿Qué es lo que más te enorgullece de tu vida?
Toby Hitchcock: Definitivamente mi esposa y mis dos hijos. Ellos son mi mundo.
Mario Aparicio: ¿Cuáles son tus próximas metas?
Ser un mejor padre… y administrar mi tiempo de manera sabia.
Mario Aparicio: Estuviste en Barcelona hace unos años haciendo un concierto acústico en la radio y también recuerdo un concierto acústico en sala. ¿Cómo fue esa experiencia?
Toby Hitchcock: Barcelona es un lugar increíble. Es uno de los lugares más bonitos donde he estado. La gente es muy agradable. Me encanta.
Mario Aparicio: Toby, y de nuevo, enhorabuena por tu fantástico álbum en solitario. ¿Algún mensaje que quieras dejar?
Toby Hitchcock: Solo quiero darle las gracias a los fans, quienes continúan apoyándome y a todos los demás artistas que hay por ahí que están haciendo lo que aman. Keep Rockin!

Mario Aparicio: First let's talk about your first solo album, "Mercury'sDown. "How did the idea?
Toby Hitchcock: This solo album basically came about when Serafino asked me if I would be interested in recording a solo project. Of course I said, "YES!!". Shortly after that, I was introduced to Erik, and was blown away by his talent. So needless to say, I was very excited about this project!
Mario Aparicio: Have you been happy with the result? What is being acceptance by the public?
Toby Hitchcock: I am very happy with the result! I think it turned out great! The response has been overwhelming!
Mario Aparicio: Erik Martensson (Eclipse, wet) has taken the lead in the composition and production of the album. How was this process in terms of your cooperation?
Toby Hitchcock: Erik and Miqael did an outstanding job with these songs. There were a few english phrases that I corrected when recording, but I didn't change any of the lyrics really. Just kind of "tweaked" them a little.
Mario Aparicio: What are your favorite songs on the album?
Toby Hitchcock: Oh now you know I can’t say! I love them all! I do like “This is the moment” a lot.
Mario Aparicio: Do you intend to record more solo albums or just a single project has been?
Toby Hitchcock: I sure hope so! Of course, this is up to the record label, but I am definitely willing to record another solo project as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
Mario Aparicio: As Pride of Lions, has any news? Do you publish new album?
Toby Hitchcock: We are starting on another album here soon! And I am really looking forward to it!
Mario Aparicio: Are you in contact with Jim Peterik,?
Toby Hitchcock: I am in contact with Jim frequently. Of course, we are both very busy, but I think that POL’s future is looking good.
Mario Aparicio: How faith affects your life? What is for you Jesus?
Toby Hitchcock: My relationship with Christ has always been important to me. Being raised in church, it has been the forefront for me.
Mario Aparicio: You had a very nice detail with the Spanish fans is Jim Peterik composition of the song, Black Ribbons. What can you say about this song?
Toby Hitchcock: This was a great song for Spain. We had a tragedy here in the US with the World Trade Center. So I know first hand how this can effect the citizens of any country. We just need to remember that coming together during these tough times, is the only thing that will get us through.
Mario Aparicio: What is your favorite album of Pride of lions? If only you could stay with two songs, which would you choose?
Toby Hitchcock: Gift of song is one of my favorites because it describes how I feel about my talent. I would have to say my other favorite is Back to Camelot. I really love that tune! It makes me want to visit those times!
Mario Aparicio: Do you have any vocal training?
Toby Hitchcock: I sure don’t. Not professional anyway. I have just been singing since I can remember!
Mario Aparicio:Do you sing in the shower?
Toby Hitchcock: Not your business....haha. I do! Always have! Hopefully alway will!
Mario Aparicio: Your references, vocalists as influences, what are they?
Toby Hitchcock: There are so many to mention. But I have influences accross the board. From Steve Perry, to Freddie Mercury to Brian McKnight and Mariah Carey! Ha...it’s true. I really love all types of music.
Mario Aparicio: 5 albums that you take to a desert island.
Toby Hitchcock: I wouldn’t take any CD’s. I would take my iPod!!! It has everything!!
Mario Aparicio: If Toby Hitchcock, was a fictional character, who would it be and why?
Toby Hitchcock: I’d be superman I think. I have always wanted to fly.
Mario Aparicio: Besides music, what makes you most proud of in your life?
Toby Hitchcock: Definitely my wife and my two boys. They are my world!!!
Mario Aparicio: What are your goals coming?
Toby Hitchcock: To be a better dad...and to manage my time wisely.
Mario Aparicio: You were in Barcelona a few years ago by an acoustic on the radio and I also remember that a concert hall acoustic. How was that experience?
Toby Hitchcock: Barcelona is an incredible place. It was one of the most beautiful places I have been to. The people are so nice. I love it there!
Mario Aparicio: Again congratulate you on your fantastic solo album. Any message that we want to leave?
Toby Hitchcock: I just want to say thank you to the fans, who continue to support me and all of the other artists out there that are doing what they love. Keep Rockin!
