Single veraniego de Chicago:

Chicago Drops New Single - "Somethin' Comin', I Know"



Chicago has entered the new music world order in the way it's both recording and releasing new music.

The group has just put out a new song, "Somethin' Comin', I Know," as a single via its official website, www.ChicagoTheBand.com.

The track, co-written by keyboardist Robert Lamm and America's Gerry Beckley, marks the first of a series of individual song releases that Chicago is planning, and the group will compile an album after enough of them are out.

Trumpeter Lee Loughnane tells us that it's Chicago's way of embracing "…the growing pains of the business.":

"First of all...the radio decided that they were already playing Chicago songs, so any new albums we put out they kept saying, 'We're already playing your songs.' 'But you're not playing the new stuff!' So we just kept playing shows and trying to concentrate on our live performances and still write and make music. And as record companies have started dwindling away to almost nothing, then when you do sign with them they want your first-born male child as well as all your writers royalties, we built our own system, our web platform that we can record our own music, put it up on the site and then send it out."

Recording "Somethin' Comin', I Know" also takes Chicago in a new direction; the track was recorded mostly on the road, including in hotel rooms in Cleveland and Nashville, using gear that the band carts around with it.

Loughnane says that:

"It's different than what we've ever done before in that we don't actually have to go into a recording studio to make it happen. We have purchased enough gear that we can record either at home...or anywhere on the road, and we have the gear to do it...If we were renting $1,500 studio a day, which they spend four, five million dollars to outfit, we have that kind of stuff for a tenth of the price 'cause it's all virtual instruments now. All of the machinery they have in studios are computerized now, virtual gear. It weighs a lot less, too, that way."

Chicago has also released a cover of the Spiral Staircase's more today than yesterday as an iTunes exclusive. There's no word yet on when the next Chicago single will be released.

The group has North American tour dates booked into early November and has already announced four Canadian dates for early 2014.
