<<ENTREVISTA>> MICHAEL ERIKSEN / TORSTI SPOOF, THE MAGNIFICENT <<INTERVIEW>> Magnificentlogo

Personalmente no me gusta utilizar temas viejos, me gustan frescos.

AC: ¿Esperabais esta calurosa y merecida recepción?

Torsti: No. Nunca espero nada.

<<ENTREVISTA>> MICHAEL ERIKSEN / TORSTI SPOOF, THE MAGNIFICENT <<INTERVIEW>> Magnificent

<<ENTREVISTA>> MICHAEL ERIKSEN / TORSTI SPOOF, THE MAGNIFICENT <<INTERVIEW>> Torsti

<<ENTREVISTA>> MICHAEL ERIKSEN / TORSTI SPOOF, THE MAGNIFICENT <<INTERVIEW>> Eriksen2

    ENGLISH VERSION

AC: First of all we would like to congratulate you for this great first album. It's absolutely one of the best hard/AOR albums I've heard in the last 10 years!

Torsti: Thank you. I`m glad you like the album.

Michael: Now that is great to hear!!

AC: How did it come the idea of this project? I've heard it's a kind of a tribute to the hard rock you used to listen when you were young…

Torsti: Serafino Perugino of Frontiers Records asked if I was interested in making an AOR album with Michael. I thought it was a great idea since i have always wanted to make an album like this.

AC: Are these new songs or songs that you got from years before?

Torsti: All the songs are pretty new. I don`t personally like to use old songs. I like it fresh.

AC: Did you expect this warm response?

Torsti: No. I never expect anything. This keeps my feet solidly on the ground. Of course it`s nice to read good reviews…and this time we got a lot of them. So in a way yeah it was a surprise.

Michael: The respons is way beyond anything we`d hoped for, the masses seem to really enjoy the album.

AC: Will this project go on or has it simply been a personal fancy? It would be great to see The Magnificent live!

Torsti: There has been some talk about a possibility to do some cool festival shows if some good offers comes along.

Michael: It would be a shame if these songs were never to performed live, so let`s hope some festivals out there wants some cool melodic rock on the bill;)

AC: There has been some critiques to the song "Angel" for its similarity with the song "Lost In the silence" of the spanish 91 Suite... did you know this band?

Torsti: I`m not familiar with the band or the song. Sorry. My musical influences come from a completely different background.

Michael: Haha, I need to visit youtube now and check it out!

AC: Another critique has been the production, that could have been better. For me, it's very good, it reminds me on the productions of the boom of the power metal, when Mika Jussila and Mika Karmila were the bosses of the best northern sounds... There is even not many guitars!!

Torsti: I think this is pretty much a matter of taste. I personally like the sound of the album a lot. It`s fat and big. It might not be the standard AOR-album sound. I think we have a bit heavier approach to the sound. On most of the songs there are 4 rhythm guitar tracks, 4 to 8 additional guitar tracks and solos so i would say there are some guitar after all. I think the album is 60% guitars and 40% keyboards.

Michael: I LOVE the production!! Just the sound this kind of music needs!

AC: We could also enjoy new voice-sounds that you normally don't use in Circus Maximus. You've been compared with Joey Tempest and Goran Edman...

Michael: Those are some kick-ass singers and I grew up singing along with their albums, so beeing compared to them is an honour!Wink

AC: Has it been difficult for yourself adapting to a style so far from the one you are used to in your band?

Michael: Allthough this album is straight rock`n`roll I still "bring" my melodic influenses into Circus Maximus, so for me to sing The Magnificent comes pretty natural to me.

AC: How would it be the top ranking of your favorite songs from this album? And how is it possible that you left such a good song as "Drive" for the japanese market? It's one of the best! Any chance to release it in Europe?

Michael: Well, I am glad to hear that you enjoy the Japanese bonus track, but as we all know the Japanese marked has to have a bonus track and this time around the song "Drive" were picked for that spot. It has that pop-approach to it I think.

AC: Let's talk about your other band. "Isolate" has already become a classic of the progressive genre. Will we finally see a continuation of it in 2012? Will there be big changes respecting "Isolate"?

Michael: Yeah, "Isolate" got amazing reviews all over the world and we are really proud of it. We still can`t believe that it has been almost 5 years since its release, but lets just say that we have been working a lot on making the follow up a kick-ass album. I am in the studio finnishing the vocal recordings as we speak. It is always hard to "explain" the music, but if you`re a CM fan you will for sure love this album, it has the hooks, the choruses, the kick-ass riffs and last but not least it has SONGS! It will see the light of day this summer, so stay tuned!

AC: What do you think about the general opinion about you being the natural takeover for Dream Theater? Do you see yourselves as high as them in the future?

Michael: Funny you should mention DT, cause we ( Glen, Mats and myself ) had a good and long talk with James La Brie after their show here in Oslo last week. Great singer and an awesome guy!!

We are not here to "take" any bands "spot", hopefully CM will ride its own wave!

AC: Or is it maybe not possible because of the rumours of your entrance in Kamelot? Was it difficult to replace such a monster as Khan was?

Michael: I stepped in to help the guys in Kamelot, cause we go way back together, I also looked at it as a great uppertunity to spread the word about CM and make more connections in the states. I had a good and long talk with Thomas Youngblood before and after everything that happened to the band. They needed to get a singer that could be 100% commited to Kamelot. I have been a fan of Roy`s voice from back in the Conception days and I also loved his approach in Kamelot, so I was very familiar with his type of singing. We are both very similiar in type of voice actually.

AC: Are you updated with the AOR and progressive music nowadays? Seventh Wonder were always compared with you because of that sense of the melody with AOR and hard influences. How is Michael Eriksen in his free time?

Michael: I am not as updated as I used to be, but I often visit sites like this Wink We are good friends with Seventh Wonder and we have toured with them in Italy several times, great guys and very talented! I haven`t had that much "free time" the last 6 months prior to the new CM album , but if I do get some time I kick some ass in BF3..I believe I have been "Most Valuable Player" more then 100 times..teamplay baby, teamplay Wink I also bought Skyrim the other day!!

AC: And to finish, any words you would like to dedicate to the readers of #HardRock_&_AOR? Thanks for everything and we hope to see you soon in Spain!

Michael: Stay tuned for the new Circus Maximus album, it is going to rock your world!! In the meanwhile enjoy The Magnificent and listen to Torsti Spoof`s kick ass riffs and amazing solo`s!!!
