<<ENTREVISTA>> ROBERT SÄLL, WORK OF ART <<INTERVIEW>> Workofart7

¿Cómo surge Work Of Art?

De esta forma, juntos formamos "Work Of Art"

<<ENTREVISTA>> ROBERT SÄLL, WORK OF ART <<INTERVIEW>> Workofart5

<<ENTREVISTA>> ROBERT SÄLL, WORK OF ART <<INTERVIEW>> Workofart2

Mario Aparicio: Creeis que es vuestro disco mas WORK OF ART?

<<ENTREVISTA>> ROBERT SÄLL, WORK OF ART <<INTERVIEW>> Workofart8

    GRACIAS!

    ENGLISH VERSION

First, congratulations for your fantastic second album. Readers of the web, I love it. Here in Spain you would receive with open arms

Mario Aparicio: How did you meet? How did Work of Art?

Robert Säll: I met Herman in high School back in 1992 and realized we shared the same love melodic rock. Herman knew Lars and invited him to the band. Together we formed Work of Art.

Mario Aparicio: Did you expect such a good response to your first album?

Robert Säll: No, we certainly did not and it was quite overwhelming. The reason why decided to do a second album was that we felt we wanted to give something back to all the fans who bought and loved the first album and everyone who has given us so much positive feedback. From press to the record label and of course, the fans!!

Mario Aparicio: After your first work, a masterpiece, never better, how to create faces a second album, taking the bar so high?

Robert Säll: We all said before we stared to work on this second album that, if we couldn't make and album that would live up to everyone's exceptions, than we shouldn't do an album at all. It was a bit of struggle when we began working on the new album but, as soon as we really got into it, we knew we had another really great album in the making so we just tried our very best to and took our time to make the album as good as we knew it could be.

Mario Aparicio: There is a clear influence of Toto in your music. If you were to choose, which is your favorite album by Toto?

Robert Säll: For me it an even tie between "The Seventh one", "Isolation" & "Toto IV". Sorry cant' rate any of these over the others.

Mario Aparicio: What other groups listen? What are your influences?

Robert Säll: Oh, that list is endless but as far as melodic rock/west coast groups goes I would say, Giant, Journey, Chicago, Jeff Paris, David Foster, SAGA, Big Money, It Bites, Winger, Mr. Big, Dan Reed Network, Def Leppard, Dream Theater, Queen, Genesis, Peter Gabriel , ACT…to name but a few!

Mario Aparicio: Focusing on "In Progress" How to be the title?

Robert Säll: It all started as joke back when we were still in high school. We made up the titles for our first 3 albums and we stuck to that plan.

Mario Aparicio: In progress personally see tighter, more energetic, with almost all the songs in a stronger line and what do you think about it? Is it something that has gone well you have sought or intentionally?

Robert Säll: I think the songs on this album are a bit more focused and more homogeny sounding due to the fact that they were written at the same time and we the intention that they would all end up on the same album so I tried to write songs that would work well together so to speak. Also, we wanted this album to me more of everything. Harder on the more heavy parts, softer on the softer parts and so on…..

Mario Aparicio: you think that your disk is more WORK OF ART?

Robert Säll: I don't know but hopefully, YES!

Mario Aparicio: A theme that I love is "Emelie". What can you tell me about it? Already in the last album you had a couple of songs with girl's name.

Robert Säll: Well, it always a very easy way to get a strong hook to use a girl name. As for Emelie, it was just a perfect name that fitted the melody perfectly so, it kind of just rolled form the "tip of my tongue" while writing it.

Mario Aparicio: Your favorite songs from the second album?

Robert Säll: Right now, "One Step Away" but it changes all of the time.

Mario Aparicio: Taking stock ... which is the 2 albums you think that is getting rave reviews by the people?

Robert Säll: Probably "in Progress" has gotten a bit better reviews in general. Not bad due to the fact that we had a lot of exceptions to live up to after the success of "Artwork".

Mario Aparicio: What is your true goal in music?

Robert Säll: To stay alive as a band and to make it possible to keep doing what we are doing. It's not easy for anyone in today's music industry and for and "new" AOR band like us, it's a true struggle!

Mario Aparicio: What is your greatest satisfaction so far?

Robert Säll: That we actually completed our latest album after a lot of hard work and it turned out even better than our fist album. That was a really good feeling.

Mario Aparicio: Beyond Work Of Art, how you dedicate to the group? Did that really you live?

Robert Säll: Well, we take one album at the time. We make absolutely no money whatsoever from this band so it's really up to each member of the band to say if they still have the time and motivation to keep doing this. Right now, what motivates us is to come out and play live. That's is something we've never done before so it's gonna feel really new and fresh to us.

Mario Aparicio: How do you see this year's theme of playing live? Have you ever had a chance to play in Spain? If so What happened at the end?

Robert Säll: Yes, we will play in Madrid on the 21th of January. It's our first gig so we are very excited about it. Please come and check us out!

Mario Aparicio: The interview has come to an end, a pleasure to be chatting with you. Something to say to the Spanish fans, fortunately there are many?

Robert Säll: Yes, again, don't miss our first live gig in Madrid on the 21th of January and a big THANK YOU to all our loyal Spanish fans, we know there are lots of them:)

    THANK YOU!!!

    saludos
