Who is this mysterious Mysterell? Well, it’s actually a solo project from Danish mastermind Torben Lysholm, whom you might remember from the band Pangea.
Torben picked up his first guitar in 1980 and joined his first real band (Los Hampos) at a youth club in 1982. One year later he formed his first own band Axa, and with them he made his first television appearance. That was very more-ish for Lysholm and in 1984 he joined the band Lizard, which later evolved into Pangea. While playing the guitar in that band, he also joined several other projects as a vocalist and started producing for other bands as well. No wonder he co-engineered the first Pangea album in 1995 and co-produced their second in 1997. Since then he has produced and co-produced many albums for artists in such diverse music styles as dance, folk, metal, pop and r&b. In the summer of 2002 he opened his own Tune Town Studios and in between other productions that was of course the place where this “Sensational” was written and recorded. Can it be compared to Pangea? Not really! As a songwriter Torben Lysholm is so varied that he can easily write songs that will please a wide variety of melodic rock fans. Listen to this album for proof of that. The material goes from ultra-slick melodic rock songs (such as “There Was You”) to hard rocking tracks, such as the opener “Don’t Ever Stop” or “Bring The House Down” and beyond. Only backed up by Lene Riebeau (choirs), this is a real solo album from Lysholm, who – besides being an excellent musician, songwriter and producer – turns out to be an incredible vocalist as well. I know it takes guts to call your first solo album “Sensational”, but hey, that’s exactly what it is. While almost all other labels have stopped releasing new material this time of the year, Frontiers Records lively go on attacking the melodic hard rock world with quality releases. You won’t hear me complain about that…
