Luis Ignacio: Hola Danny ¿Cómo estas?


Danny Vaughn: Bien, ¿Cómo estás tu?

Luis Ignacio: Muy bien también, gracias. Desde #HardRock_&_AOR, te podemos decir que nos ha encantado este nueva entrega de From The Inside, es un disco muy fresco, melódico, un muy buen album ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y de mezcla? ¿Estás contento con el resultado final?


Danny Vaughn: Ha sido un proceso algo extraño porque nunca me encontré en persona con alguien involucrado en el disco. Hubiese estado genial poder volar todos al mismo estudio de grabación y trabajar juntos pero como no había dinero para ello pues lo hemos hecho todo a través de Internet. Frabrizio fue el encargado de grabar a todos los músicos y luego me mandó a mi las canciones para que metiese la voz en mi casa y se lo enviase de nuevo. El resto del trabajo se me ha escapado de las manos: No estoy satisfecho del todo con el trabajo realizado, sobre todo con la masterización que estuvo a cargo Tommy Hansen . No me gusta como suena.


Luis Ignacio :¿Qué estilo querías llegar a conseguir con este álbum?


Danny Vaughn: El estilo decidimos que sería en plan Journey y Foreigner. Creo que hicimos un trabajo decente.


Luis Ignacio:From The Inside tuvo un debut anterior ¿Con qué disco has disfrutado más?


Danny Vaughn: Me gustan ambos discos. Prefiero la forma en que grabamos el primero porque tuvimos mas canciones para elegir. Esta vez Frontiers nos dijo que se grabarían las seis que hicimos y otras seis y no nos dio otra opción. No me lo he pasado nada bien haciéndolo.



Luis Ignacio:El debut de From The Inside, fue brillante pero Visions es también un auténtico bombazo. Las canciones que personalmente más me han gustado son: “Listen To Your Heart” ,“21st Century”, “Days Of Hunger” y “Making Waves”,¿Cómo fueron creadas estas canciones? ¿Cuáles son tus canciones favoritas de Visions? ¿Por qué?


Danny Vaughn: Todo el mundo siempre pregunta eso. No tengo favoritos. Es como preguntar a un padre cual es su hijo preferido.


Luis Ignacio: En esta nueva entrega de From The Inside, ¿Han participado los mismos músicos que en tu anterior trabajo?¿Qué músicos te han ayudado?


Danny Vaughn: No, todos los músicos han sido nuevos a excepción de Frabrizio Seguramente los músicos estarán puestos en el libreto. Así lo espero.

Luis Ignacio: En España tienes una gran cantidad de aficionados, ¿Qué piensas de el público español?


Danny Vaughn: Cuando visité España por primera vez tuve un sentimiento muy fuerte y muy positivo. Me gusta viajar allí y tengo muy buenos amigos. No me siento extranjero. Estoy como en casa. Me encanta la comida y los paisajes, desde el sur al norte. Las ciudades son fantásticas y me divierto muchísimo cuando voy. Sois un público que ama la música de verdad. En Madrid siempre coreáis las canciones; es fantástico.

Luis Ignacio:A todos los lectores de Rock Ángels nos gustaría saber cuales son las principales influencias musicales de Danny Vaughn. ¿Qué te parece el rock melódico de la actualidad? ¿Hay nuevas bandas que pueden llegar a mantener la llama eterna? ¿Crees que tienen futuro?


Danny Vaughn: Es una pregunta complicada. No se si existe un estilo definido como “Rock melódico” de la manera en la que los fans lo entienden. Los fans molan y mantienen vivo esto pero creo que tienen unas ideas muy limitadas y encorsetan mucho el estilo. Eso nunca me ha gustado. Yo hago la música que me sale del corazón y mis influencias serían incontables ya que escucho muchísima música. Es mi mayor pasión. Me llevaría días pero por nombrar unos pocos artistas te diría The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelín, Journey, Kings X, Stevie Wonder…


Luis Ignacio: Tyketto ha llegado a estar de gira con grandes bandas de Heavy Metal como Iron Maiden, entre otros. ¿Qué tipo de experiencias puedes contarnos con estas bandas legendarias? ¿Qué planes tienes para un futuro próximo?


Danny Vaughn: Han sido una gente excepcional con la que trabajar. Nos trataron siempre con respeto y cariño y es una experiencia que nunca olvidaré. Son unos profesionales como la copa de un pino. Para el futuro, mis planes son hacer un disco acústico en solitario que siempre he querido hacer. También quiero hacer un disco con la misma gente que grabé “Traveller”. Con Tyketto haremos algunos conciertos el año que viene. Estaremos en Madrid para enero de 2009, y también creo que en las Islas Canarias. Acabo de terminar un tema con mi amigo Jorge Salán que estará en su nuevo disco. Como ves, me mantengo ocupado.




Luis Ignacio: En tu vida diaria Danny ¿A qué te dedicas? ¿En que empleas tu tiempo libre?


Danny Vaughn: Comer, beber y ser feliz. Soy un músico a tiempo total. Trabajo grabando en proyectos para diferente gente. Toco en un par de bandas y giro con regularidad. También doy clases de guitarra. Llevo una vida que me da muchas satisfacciones aunque algunas veces no saque beneficio económico.


Luis Ignacio: Llevas muchísimo tiempo en el mundo de la música y tendrás seguramente multitud de anécdotas, ¿Puedes contarnos alguna que te haya pasado recientemente?


Danny Vaughn: Me temo que mi vida últimamente ha sido muy placentera y no tengo ninguna anécdota que contarte.


Luis Ignacio: Si tuvieras en tu poder la maquina del tiempo ¿Qué banda legendaria te gustaría ver? ¿Por qué?


Danny Vaughn.: The Beatles porque significaría que están vivos.


Luis Ignacio: Ahora vamos a hablar sobre la banda de tu vida, TYKETTO. ¿Cuáles son las canciones que más orgulloso te sientes y por qué?


Danny Vaughn: Me encantan “Nothing but love” y “Catch my fall”. Todavía suenan frescas y poderosas igual que el día que las compusimos. Me gustan todas pero esas dos en particular.




Luis Ignacio: Danny recientemente, has anunciado el regreso de Tyketto, a los escenarios, ¿Qué nos puedes contar ?


Danny Vaughn: Si, Tyketto estaremos haciendo varios conciertos en Europa a principios del año que viene, concretamente en enero. En mayo o junio viajaremos a Sudamérica y también queremos hacer algunos festivales en verano.


Luis Ignacio.: Continuando con este tema, ¿Tienes planes para el futuro, a corto plazo con Tyketto o prefieres centrarte exclusivamente en tu carrera en solitario?


Danny Vaughn: No hay otros planes que los conciertos que te he dicho. Ahora mismo estoy trabajando en varios proyectos. Para mi, la satisfacción está en el trabajo continúo

Luis Ignacio: Otra de las preguntas que surgen entre nuestros lectores de Rock Ángels es porque Tyketto, han estado tanto tiempo sin publicar material nuevo, ¿qué puedes decirnos de esto? ¿Hay posibilidades de que Tyketto saque algún álbum nuevo?

Danny Vaughn: Nos llevó tanto tiempo porque no sabíamos ni que teníamos esas cintas. Las encontré en unas cajas la última vez que me mudé de casa. Un nuevo disco de Tyketto sería posible pero Brooke nos ha dejado para siempre y nos llevaría mucho tiempo preparar un nuevo trabajo. Tendríamos que escribir nuevo material con mucho cuidado. El problema es que muchos fans dirían – “Oh, no es tan bueno como Don´t come easy”, sea como fueran las nuevas canciones. Una cosa que no se es si seríamos capaces de hacer un disco lo suficientemente melódico y a la vez moderno pero que gustase a nuestros fans mas clásicos. Un montón de bandas han tenido ese problema. No es lo que los fans quieren ni por lo que somos conocidos.


Luis Ignacio: ¿Tienes alguna fecha prevista con Tyketto en nuestro país?

Danny Vaughn: Madrid, enero de 2009.


Luis Ignacio: Me siento muy agradecido por haber podido realizar esta entrevista Danny. Es un honor. Luis Ignacio: Hi Danny, How are you?


Danny Vaughn: Doing well, thank you. How are you?


1-Luis Ignacio: From Rock Angels. We can say you that we love this new release "From The Inside", it is a album that sounds fresh, melodic, a very good album,How was the process of recording and mixing?


Danny Vaughn: It's a strange process, actually because I never meet any of the people involved. It would be nice to all fly to the same studio and work together
on the project but we don't have those kind of budgets so we do everything over the internet.
Mostly, Fabrizio got all of the players together and recorded the tracks and sent them on to me.
I did my vocals at home and sent them back. And the rest was out of my hands.


2-Luis Ignacio: Are you happy, about the final process of the album?


Danny Vaughn: Not entirely, no. I wasn't that happy with the final mastering. I don't like the over all sound.


3-Luis Ignacio: What style would you like with Visions?


Danny Vaughn: We all agreed that we wanted to try and make a recording that sounded like Journey or maybe Foreigner. I think we did a decent job.


4-Luis Ignacio: From The Inside, Debut and Visions. Which one have you enjoyed the most? I cannot tell. I thought the Debut was brilliant but Visions is also a smasher. Please share with us some background info.



Danny Vaughn: I like them both. I guess I liked the process of making the first one better because we had a lot more songs to pick and choose from. This time Frontiers told us that they had picked the other 6 songs and we had no choices, just do them. So it wasn't as much fun to do.


5-Luis Ignacio: The songs that I personally have liked the most are: "Listen To Your Heart" ,"21st Century", "Days Of Hunger" and "Making Waves", How were these songs created? What are your favorite songs of Visions? Why?



Danny Vaughn: Everybody always asks that. I don't have favorites. It would be like asking a parent to tell which of his children he likes the most.


6-Luis Ignacio: One of the things that caught my attention the most was the sound quality of Visions. Who was the producer? For how long were you working on the recording studio?


Danny Vaughn: I think I've answered all of that already. The producer is Fabrizio Grossi and Tommy Hansen did the mastering. I was never in the recording studio. I only did my vocals from home.


7-Luis Ignacio: In this new release of From The Inside, The same musicians in your previous job participated on this one? What musicians helped you?


Danny Vaughn: No, these are all different players with the exception of Fabrizo himself. Surely the names of the musicians must be on the album? I certainly hope they are.


8-Luis Ignacio: In Spain you have a lot of fans, What do you think about the Spanish public?



Danny Vaughn: When I first started coming to Spain it was such a great feeling for me. I love it there and I have made so many friends there that, now, when I come there, it never feels like a "foreign" country to me. I feel right at home. I love the food, I love what I have seen of the Spanish countryside, both north and south. The cities are fantastic, so I always look forward to having a good time. And they love music! The audiences in Madrid always sing along with our songs. It's great.


9-Luis Ignacio: The readers of Rock Angels would like to know which are the major musical influences of Danny Vaughn. What do you think about melodic rock
nowadays? Are there any new thing capable of keeping the flame burning? Does it have a future?


Danny Vaughn: Thats' a tough one. I don't know if there is anything that is "melodic rock" in the same way that some fans wish it to be. Fans can be funny. They can keep your music going, but they can also have limited ideas about what music you "Should be making". I've never liked that. I make the music that moves me. My musical influences are endless! I listen to so much music. It is the main stream of my life. To make a list would take days but I'll tell you a few. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Journey, King's X, Stevie Wonder, to name only a few.


10-Luis Ignacio: You have been on tour with Journey and Iron Maiden among others. What kind of experiences did you gain from these legendary bands? What plans do you have for the future?


Danny Vaughn:They were both exceptional people to work with. They treated us with respect and kindness and made the whole experience ones that I will never forget. Both of those bands are true professionals. As for the future, it never arrives, does it? :-) My plans are to make my own acoustic album, which I have always wanted to do, as well as make another solo album with the same band that did "Traveller" with me. Tyketto is planning on doing some more shows next year. We will be in Madrid in January, and also the Canary Islands, I think! And I just finished a song with my good friend, Jorge Salan, that will be on his next album. So I'm keeping busy.


11-Luis Ignacio: in your daily life What do you do? And in your free time?


Danny Vaughn: I eat, drink, and be merry! I am happy to say that, right now anyway, I am a musician full time. I work on recording projects for people, I play in a couple of bands that tour regularly, and I teach guitar as well. It's very rewarding to live this way even if there is no money in it!


12-Luis Ignacio: Which band would you like to see reform? Why?


Danny Vaughn: The Beatles. Because then they would all be alive!


13-Luis Ignacio: Which songs are you most proud of from your Tyketto days and why?


Danny Vaughn: There are some that I never get tired of playing live. I love "Nothing But Love" and "Catch My Fall" live. They still feel as fresh and powerful to me as when we wrote them. I love all of our songs still, but those give me a real charge on stage.


14-Luis Ignacio.: Danny recently,you have announced the return of Tyketto, to the stage, what I pudes count on it?


Danny Vaughn: Yes, Tyketto will be playing a few shows in Europe in January of 2009 and then we will do some shows in SouthAmerica in May or June. We also hope to do some of the festivals in the summer time.


15-Luis Ignacio: Continuing with this subject, do you have future plans at short-term with Tyketto or do you want to focus exclusively on your solo career?


Danny Vaughn: No more plans other than the tours I just mentioned. I'm working on several projects at once right now. We will see which ones make it to where the public can hear them. But, for me, the joy is in the work.


16-Luis Ignacio: Another question that many readers of Rock Angels have asked is why Tyketto is taking so long to release unedited and unpublished material
again, what can you say about this? Is a Tyketto new album possible? Even though Brooke St James will not be joining Tyketto at Firefest this October? Do you feel ready to go recreating some of Don't Come Easy or Strength In Numbers magic?


Danny Vaughn: That's a lot of questions again! We took so long because we didn't know we had those tapes at all!. I only found them in a box when I moved house the last time. A new Tyketto album could be possible but, as you mentioned, with Brooke now having left us permanently, we will be taking a long time before we would try and release a brand new cd. We will have to write the songs very carefully. The problem is that some people will always say, "It's not as good as Don't Come Easy", no matter what we do. So there are some people that have already closed their minds to what we do being great. People are funny like that. One thing I don know is that if Tyketto did do another album we would not try to be "modern" so much that you didn't know it was Tyketto. A lot of bands make that mistake. It's not what the fans want. We would stick to being what we are known for.



17-Luis Ignacio.: Do have have any plans to return with Tyketto to Spain?

Danny Vaughn: January, Madrid, 2009.
